NSA at SFSU: official supporters of SB810!

May 26th, 2010

We are proud to announce that the Nursing Student Association at SFSU is on the official California Senate Bill 810 Support List! Senator Mark Leno has authored SB810, which calls for Universal Health Care in California.

Find our name (#121) on the Support List.

Below is the text of our endorsement letter:

Dear Senator Leno,

The Nursing Students Association at San Francisco State University writes in strong support of SB 810, which you authored.

The Nursing Students Association at San Francisco State University is a student professional organization with over 50 active members, recognized by the National Student Nursing Association (NSNA) and California Nursing Student Association (CNSA). As future nurses, we understand that providing access to health care for all residents of California is fundamental for the health of our State.

The current system leaves 6.6 million Californians without health insurance. We understand that steps have been taken on the federal level to provide more care. However, Californians are leaders and we must strive for universal access to healthcare. If this bill is implemented, every Californian would have health insurance regardless of their health status or ability to pay, reducing healthcare disparities that contribute to poor health outcomes. We support SB 810 because it is a fiscally sound insurance plan that eliminates billions of dollars in administrative spending, includes evidenced-based health care guidelines, and allows for individual freedom in healthcare decision-making. We believe it is essential health policy to insure the entire population.

We are the future of healthcare, and we support SB 810.

Sincerely,

Katie Joy Alsup
President NSA at SFSU
